Branding Photography with Inner Yogies

Southern Georgian Bay attracts many who are looking for a more balanced and wellness oriented lifestyle.  It is no wonder the area is home to a variety of holistic practitioners and businesses. Inner Yogies a beautiful yoga studio, tucked away in Thornbury, part of the Town of the Blue Mountains.

The Inner Yogies team is dedicated to offering a healing experience to our community; private sessions, classes and workshops are provided for personal development, spiritual growth, and divine connection.  These members are knowledgeable in their modalities and as an integral part of our community, work to provide a safe, fun and interactive space to learn, heal, and unite with your Inner Yogi.

Last month I did a branding photoshoot with Inner Yogies.  Our goal was to create colourful and cohesive images that matched their brand, embodying movement, healing, joy, AND offered a window into what it is like to visit their studio.  Here is a an overview of the shoot and some highlights from the final gallery.  Perhaps these will inspire some yoga photoshoot ideas for you as well!

Getting Ready

Every photo session is a canvas for creativity and storytelling as a professional photographer.  When Inner Yogies enlisted my expertise for their yoga photo shoot, I knew it was an opportunity to blend our passion for photography with the serenity of yoga.

From the outset, meticulous planning was paramount. Collaborating closely with Shikha Mehta, with owner of Inner Yogies, we crafted a mood board and photoshoot guide that encapsulated their vision, ensuring each shot reflected their brand ethos. Incorporating their signature colors, we carefully selected attire and yoga mats to harmonize with their aesthetic, creating a cohesive visual narrative.  We also decided ahead of the shoot the best yoga poses to capture based on the visuals they created.  The list of poses helped us to stay organized and made sure nothing was missed.

To capture beautiful yoga pictures, the most important thing was having beautiful light through the space.  Although the yoga studio does offer an ample amount of natural light for indoor yoga photography, some areas required additional lighting, with large diffusers to give that feel of natural lighting, to ensure the shots were well lit and offered that light, airy feel.

Shikha enlisted the help of all of the yoga instructors that teach in the space to be our skilled yoga models.  Rather than have everyone wearing the same thing, we asked that they simply incorporate key colours into their clothing.  That way, they may be wearing different outfits, but everyone looked cohesive.

Getting Perfect Yoga Photos

They gracefully navigated through a repertoire of poses, embodying the essence of yoga practice.

We also created variety in the images by changing the placement yoga mats so that we had shots with individuals facing the opposite direction as well.  As I was shooting, I moved about the room, taking photos from above, at a low perspective and from different angles.  As each yoga teacher moved through the poses, I focused on capturing both wide shots of the group and close-up shots of individuals.  Again, these different perspectives gives you the same view you would have from your yoga mat as if you were in a class.

Transitioning seamlessly from one area to another, we explored the studio’s distinct spaces, including the tranquil treatment rooms where reiki healers, osteopaths, and acupuncturists practice their craft. Through portrait photography, we aimed to convey the serene ambiance and holistic approach to wellness synonymous with Inner Yogies.

Once we finished in the studio space, we moved into taking photos in the common areas, such as the entryway and the lounge.  It was important to show how welcoming the space is.  To help create that energy we had our models in the shots, interacting with each other in the space as they typically would.

A couple hours later and a memory card brimming with stunning images, we had an abundance of images that will serve as the cornerstone of their marketing materials. Our collaboration had yielded not just beautiful photos but a visual narrative that would elevate Inner Yogies’ social media presence and resonate with their audience.

A successful yoga photoshoot isn’t merely about capturing poses; it’s about encapsulating the essence of the brand and the practice itself. With meticulous planning, creative thinking, and a passion for both photography and yoga, we were able to create a collection of images that not only showcased Inner Yogies‘ beauty but also conveyed the spirit of their practice to the world.
