5 Perfect Locations for Your Next Branding Photoshoot in the Blue Mountains & Collingwood
Are you a small business owner looking to take your brand to the next level? One of the best ways to do that is by investing in professional branding photography. But where do you start? One of the first things you’ll need to do is choose a location for your photo shoot. In this blog post, we’ll be sharing 5 perfect locations in the Blue Mountains and Collingwood area for your next branding photoshoot.
Planning Ahead for Your Personal Branding Photoshoot
Before heading out to take pictures, it is always a good idea to take the time to plan. The pictures you are taking need to represent your business. It is easy to get distracted by nice scenery or fun poses, and lose sight of what you are truly trying to achieve in your images. First thing I like to do is to create a mood board. A mood board will include your brand colours, your logo, fonts and even words that you want to use to describe your business.
What is your brand identity?
What elements and items represent the work that you do?
Are you trying to achieve a more polished, professional look?
Or, a more casual, fun-loving feel?
Canva is a great tool for creating a mood board – simply type “mood board” into the search bar and you will get a selection of different formats to use.
Although you are taking your own unique photos, to help get a sense of the vibes you are trying to achieve, search stock photography for images that embody your brand attributes best. This will give you a general idea of the aesthetic you are going for in your photos. Once you have a mood board outlined, you will have a better sense of the best photoshoot location, as well as props and outfits, to help replicate this overall feel.
My top 5 locations in the Blue Mountains & Collingwood
In the Blue Mountains and Collingwood area, we are lucky to have tons of great locations for photoshoots. The scenery and diverse settings available give you lots of choices to help you achieve the look you are going for. Here are some of my favourites:
1. Blue Mountain Village
If you’re looking for a location with a lot of variety, the Blue Mountain Village is a great place to start. With its beautiful architecture, colourful storefronts, and scenic views, this location provides a great backdrop for branding photos. This is a great spot for a photoshoot that offers a lot of variety. However, be sure to plan your timing carefully. Since it is a busy tourist destination, try to visit during slower times (mornings and weekdays), when there is less chance of running into crowds.
2. Trails and Parks
The Bruce Trail spans across this region, with many additional trails that connect as well. If you are looking to create a more outdoorsy or earthy feel for your brand, the greenery on the trails and the expansive views of the Beaver Valley offer the perfect backdrop. For example if you are a physiotherapist or yoga instructor, action shots on the trails or a quite moment on a yoga mat with a gorgeous view the in background could work perfectly.
3. Collingwood Harbour
If you’re looking for a location with nautical feel, Collingwood Harbour is a good idea. This location offers beautiful views of the water, boats, and the picturesque Collingwood Terminals grain elevators. The grain elevators are an iconic and very recognizable local landmark. If you are trying to establish your brand as being a part of the Collingwood community, having the grain elevators in the background is a strategic choice. Beyond that, the harbour offers, natural elements like Georgian Bay and the shoreline. You might even catch some paddleboarders and kayakers in your shots, that might add to a fun, care-free vibe.
4. Craigleith Provincial Park
If you like the idea of having water elements in your shots, but don’t feel like the business of the Collingwood Harbour is quite right for what your vibe, Delphi Point Park or Craigleith Provincial Park would be fantastic alternatives. This locations offers a stunning views of the Georgian Bay and its blue waters. The waterfront is shale which adds stone elements to your photos, and is much easier to walk around, whether you are barefoot or in heels. The parks gets pretty busy in the summer months, which means you might end up with swimmers and sunbathers in your shot. This might be a better location for the spring and the fall, when the weather is still nice, but camping season is slower.
5. Coffee Shops and Small Business Locations
Some of the downtown areas are, especially in Collingwood, Thornbury and Meaford, have maintained a lot of the original bring buildings. This architecture and the quaint small town feel offers a great photo backdrop that works well for a wide range of businesses and industries. Posing in a suit or business attire standing in front of the Service Canada building on Hurontario in Collingwood, or in front of the red brick storefronts in Thornbury, could be great for creating a more professional image. Perhaps you want some more interactive shots? A photo of you working on your laptop, sipping a coffee at a local coffeeshop or bakery could be just the thing. Sometimes, the best locations for a branding photoshoot are the ones that reflect your own business or industry.
Once you’ve chosen your location, the next step is to work with a professional branding photographer to plan out the details of your shoot. This includes refining a mood board, discussing outfit changes, and coming up with specific shots that showcase your brand identity. If you’re not sure where to start, a branding photographer can guide you through the creative process.
Don’t forget about the little things, too – prop ideas, color schemes, and even a coffee mug that reflects your brand can all make a big difference in your photos. And if you’re feeling overwhelmed, don’t worry – a professional photographer can help you with all of these details.
